Trey Smith, a guard for the Chiefs, says he ‘can’t blame’ Tyreek Hill for joining the Dolphins. “He is being paid”

Although many were surprised by Tyreek Hill’s decision to leave Kansas City for a better contract in Miami, his former teammate, guard Trey Smith, explained that he fully understands Hill’s motivations.

“Yes, the coaches will make decisions based on what they believe is best for the organisation and the team. And I cannot blame Tyreek; he is being compensated “Smith stated on the radio programme J-Mart and Ramon, as reported by the Kansas City Star. “I will never fault a man for earning money, but he must do what is best for himself. I am excited to see what he accomplishes in Miami and wish him well.”

Hill was the crown jewel of the Chiefs’ receiving corps for the first six years of his career, accumulating 6,630 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns and becoming quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ favourite target.

But after the 2021 season, Hill and the team were unable to reach a contract extension agreement because Hill wanted a better deal than the Chiefs were willing to offer. Therefore, Kansas City gave him permission to seek a trade, which ultimately led to the 28-year-old receiver moving to Miami, where the Dolphins gave him a $120 million, four-year extension.

Smith stated that he fully comprehends Hill’s decision to join a new team if it is willing to pay him what he believes he is worth. As many players in the league have acknowledged over the years in similar situations, football is also a business, and everyone is simply attempting to maximise their chances of success.

Hill’s departure will leave a significant hole in the Chiefs’ offence, but the team has already begun to restock its receiving corps by signing JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling this offseason. Even without their former star receiver, Smith has no doubt in the Chiefs front office’s ability to find the players necessary to keep Kansas City in the conversation as one of the league’s elite teams.

“I believe our front desk does an excellent job. I believe our front office is one of the best in the league “he said. “I believe they did a fantastic job in the draught and in reloading, so that we’re prepared and in a good position this year.”
