With the World Cup quickly approaching, Senegal will be extremely concerned about the health of one of their star players.
Senegal won their first AFCON tournament in January, with star player Sadio Mane scoring the decisive penalty kick. Now, the Lions of Teranga, having qualified for the World Cup by defeating Egypt in a play-off, appear to have a shot at advancing to the round of 16, as they are in a relatively comfortable group with the Netherlands (who are expected to finish atop the group), hosts Qatar, and South American team Ecuador.
However, there has been a hiccup in Senegal’s preparations for the upcoming event in less than two weeks. During the first half of Bayern Munich’s match against Werder Bremen, Mane had to be substituted out due to what appears to be a severe calf injury.
Despite the fact that the former Liverpool star was able to leave the field on his own two feet after receiving treatment, any sort of injury this close to the tournament is certainly cause for concern for his national team.
As they prepare to support their team, who will begin their fourth World Cup campaign on November 21 against the Netherlands, Senegalese fans in the country and around the world will be anxiously awaiting updates on Mane’s condition.
