In New York, ISRAEL ADESANYA’s tenure as UFC middleweight champion came to a violent end.

The Last Stylebender and kickboxing sensation Alex Pereira rekindled their battle in the headline event of UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden.

Adesanya was poised for a unanimous decision victory until a devastating left hook and a shower of strikes in the final round knocked him out.

With a submission victory over Carla Esparza, Zhang Weili reclaimed the strawweight championship.

And former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier returned to winning ways by submitting Michael Chandler in the third round.

Pereira exclaimed, “I feel so blessed. I worked so diligently for this. “I apologise to everyone that I had to post something; I had to engage in some trash talk this time. To win this fight, though, I had to get into his head.

He added, “It was very difficult, but like Glover said, I was fighting every day in the gym. “To everyone who claimed I couldn’t do five rounds, consider what I just accomplished. I’m prepared for what’s next.”

In the fifth round of a UFC 281 thriller at The World’s Most Famous Arena, The Last Stylebender was knocked out. In the waning moments of the fifth and final round, the New Zealander of Nigerian descent held a three-to-one advantage.

However, a devastating left hook from Pereira stunned the former champion and forced him into survival mode. Adesanya attempted to avert the impending storm through head movement. However, he took several unanswered blows, prompting referee Marc Goddard to stop the fight.

Gilbert Durinho commented on Alex Pereira’s knockout victory over Israel Adesanya.
