England Vs. France

After missing a penalty in the 94th minute, Harry Kane and the English team were eliminated from the World Cup by the defending champions, France, 2-1.

France took the lead on a goal by Aurelien Tchouameni in the 17th minute, and though Kane equalised with a penalty in the 54th, France ultimately prevailed thanks to a goal by Olivier Giroud in the 78th minute.

In the 84th minute, Kane had a chance to become England’s all-time record goalscorer from the penalty spot, but he squandered the opportunity by putting the ball high over the crossbar with his second penalty kick.

As a result, Gareth Southgate’s team was eliminated from the World Cup before the semifinals for the second year in a row, while France advanced to face Morocco in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Tchouameni gave France a fantastic start when he evaded a challenge from Declan Rice and unleashed a brilliant effort from long range that Jordan Pickford couldn’t do anything about.

In the 25th minute, Dayot Upamecano was penalised for a collision with Harry Kane near the edge of the penalty area, but referee Wilton Sampaio ultimately decided against awarding a penalty kick.

After a promising start to the second half, Southgate’s squad received a lifeline when Tchouameni was called for a penalty for bringing down Saka. Kane took the penalty and buried it past Hugo Lloris, tying Wayne Rooney for the most goals scored for England in an international career with 53.

In the 70th minute, England nearly took the lead when Harry Maguire rose highest off a free kick, but his header went just wide of the post despite Lloris’s best efforts.

Seven minutes later, France missed a great opportunity of their own when Giroud’s volley was acrobatically turned away by Pickford, but the France striker made up for it with a thumping header from Antoine Griezmann’s cross to put his team up 1-0.

After a review by VAR, England were given a penalty for a barge by Theo Hernandez on substitute Mason Mount, and it looked like their lead wouldn’t last long. However, Kane skied his attempt in an unusual way this time.
